Another Jordan Hybrid Shoe for Basketball
Hybrid. For Jordanheads around the globe this one word will create mixed emotions. Hybrid is defined as an offspring resulting from cross-breeding. In the case of a Jordan Hybrid, one Jordan model “bred” with another Jordan model. With the success of the Jordan 6 Rings and the Jordan Spiz’ike, it appears as if Jordan Brand will continue its quest to release more and more “Hybrid” shoes for basketball. This will come as great news for some Jordanheads. For other Jordanheads this is another sign that the end of the world is near. Regardless of whether you like or dislike these Jordan Hybrids the fact is that these shoes are selling in large amounts. And as long as they are selling, JB will continue to create more of these shoes. The newest Hybrid to hit the market is the Jordan 6-17-23. And the numbers in the shoe’s name say it all.
As the name implies, this shoe combines the elements of the Jordan 6 and the Jordan 17. And those of us who are proficient at basic math know that those two numbers, when added to one another, equal 23. Here’s another no-brainer. The number on Michael Jordan’s jersey was, you guessed it, 23. The upper of the shoe heavily resembles that of the Jordan 6 but includes elements of the Jordan 17. The toebox, lace eyelets, and the “jazz” patten branding on the tongue are taken from the 17. The midsole is actually a fusion of both midsoles of the 6 and 17. Included in the midsole is the translucent design element that has always been associated with the 6. The Jumpman logo is traditionally placed on the back of the heel cup.
Jordan Brand has released four different editions of this shoe so far. Of the four colorways dropped, one of which strongly resembles the epic “Carmine” 6, the most recent colorway features a Black leather and nubuck upper. The legendary Grey cement print used on the Jordan 4 is used on this shoe’s midsole and heel pull-tab. The shoe is accented by Air Jordan IV-like Grey cement print on the heel pull-tab and midsole. Grey is also used on the inner lining and lace panel. The outsole uses Red, Black, and the famous translucent rubber.
This new Jordan 6-17-23 is not the first Hybrid shoe to release and it certainly won’t be the last. Jordan Brand has had too much success with these shoes. And there will always be Jordanheads who either really love or really hate this shoe. Among all the Jordan shoes for basketball there just seems to be no middle ground when it comes to Jordan Hybrids.
